Outreach

        Burkhead Outreach Projects

1.  The Y.A.R.N. Ministry is a group that meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 1:00 pm to knit and/or crochet lap robes, caps for newborns or older children and scarfs.  These items are donated to people who need them.  The book “Knit Purl Pray” is used as a devotional for their meetings.  If you are interested in joining, contact Beth Dixon at bethddixon@me.com.  Beginners are welcome.

2.  SPARK’Dwell – Burkhead is honored to partner with SPARK’Dwell and support their outreach to our community in need.  Here’s a link to their website:  https://www.sparkdwell.org/.  Please take a minute and read about all of the great things this group is able to accomplish with YOUR assistance.

3. Little Free Libraries/Reading Circles – The building volunteers have completed 3 Little Free Libraries which are set up in different locations:  Burkhead UMC, Open Arms Community on Sprague Street and The Potter’s House on 25th Street.  Books are donated to fill these libraries.

4.  Outreach collects school supplies for Open Arms and Speas Elementary School.

5. We participate in seasonal projects for local community members.

Spark Cozy Bundle – Burkhead members joined SPARK and other volunteers to help our cold neighbors. We distributed pajamas, blankets, and books to local children. We also partnered with the Community Coat Closet to give warm outerwear to young and old.

Salvation Army Christmas Warehouse – Burkhead members assembled wheeled toys and packaged personalized sets of gifts for children in need.
